Before travelling to Athens for meeting the Greek Prime Minister in hope of a €2bn aid, the President had chalked out a 12 point plan which would help the economy recover.

The Cypriot Bailout is one of the first eurozone rescue packages which have ended up penalizing people with savings by having them give their extra cash to the crumbling banks. However, in spite of the depositors contributing 30-40% of their savings, the deficit is far from being met. These steps had to be taken when the island had to make arrangements for €5.8bn in order to get International Monetary Fund's €10bn loan.

In an attempt to convince the Greek Prime Minister in shelling out some amount from their €48bn rescue loan, the President of Cyprus also had plans of approaching the coalition partner of the Greek Prime Minister, the President as well as the opposition party leaders of Greece.
